Baseball

Hi Parents and Guardians,

My name is Wally Rodriguez, and I am the head coach for NPMS 8th Grade Baseball. Mitchell McNeil will be the head coach for 7th Grade Baseball.  We are excited to kick off our season in just a few weeks! Below is important information to help you and your student-athlete be prepared for our first practice on Monday, April 13th. The season will run through May 26th. A game schedule will be shared and updated as soon as it is finalized and available.

What to Wear

Players should come dressed in athletic clothing and be ready to be active.

  • Baseball Glove/Mitt
  • Bat (Not necessary)
  • Sweats or baseball pants
  • Sweatshirt
  • Cleats (metal can be used. If you plan on pitching, cleats are not allowed on the portable mound, so come prepared.)
  • Baseball cap (Baseball caps can be purchased from our school front office for $25)
  • Water bottle labeled with your child’s name (We also have a filtered water hose near right field during practice)
  • More requirements later…

Practice Schedule

  • Practice begins at 2:55 PM
  • Attendance will be taken promptly at 3:00 PM
  • Practice ends at 4:45 PM
  • Please plan to pick up your child by 5:00 PM on the back side of the school, Alki Street.

For the first two weeks, we will practice Monday through Friday to prepare for our early games. After that, practices will typically be held Monday through Thursday on school days.

What Players Will Learn

We will begin the season by reviewing basic baseball fundamentals to ensure all players feel confident on the field. Our coaching staff will guide, stretch, and challenge the boys in a positive and supportive environment. Throughout the season, we will focus on skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and building confidence both on and off the field.

Additional Notes

  • Please inform a coach of any medical concerns or injuries
  • Consistent attendance and positive behavior are expected
  • If your child needs to miss practice, please communicate with the coach ahead of time
  • Athletes who miss practice the day before a game will have impacted playing time, with the possibility of sitting out that game. This helps ensure player safety, preparation, and fairness to the team.

Thank you for supporting positive attitudes, dedication, and leadership at home. We are looking forward to a great season and appreciate your support of NPMS Baseball.

Go Cubs!

Sincerely,

Coach Wally Rodriguez
